>>Ovidiu Rom’s Halloween Charity Ball, a masked extravaganza of goodwill and entertainment held at Palatul Parlamentului, confirmed that ‘Doing Good Can Be a Ball’, as the event’s pre-publicity promised. Speakers included Leslie Hawke, Ovidiu Rom’s founder, Maria Gheorghiu, its executive director, Ethan Hawke, the actor and writer, and Romania’s Prime Minister, Calin Popescu Tariceanu. More than 1,000 people attended, and a net total of 113,000 euros was raised to enable Ovidiu Rom and its ‘Gata Dispus si Capabil’ (eng: Ready, Willing and Able) programs to continue to help some of Romania’s most impoverished people support themselves.
